The foundation of SYN flooding attack is the design of three-way handshake when TCP is used to establish connection. The third packet verifies that the connection initiator has the ability to accept the packet at the source IP address used in the first request, that is, its return is reachable. We know that IPTables acts according to rules. Let's talk about rules. Rules are actually predefined conditions for network administrators. Rules are generally defined as "if the packet header meets such conditions, this packet will be processed in this way". The rules are stored in the packet filtering table in kernel space, specifying the source address, destination address, transport protocol (such as TCP, UDP, ICMP), service type (such as HTTP, FTP, and SMTP), and so on. When packets match the rule, iptables processes these packets according to the methods defined by the rule, such as accept, reject and drop. The main task of configuring a firewall is to add, modify, and delete these rules.
