《极恶非道》系列电影故事聚焦于东京黑道帮派之中的权利更迭，内部的势力争夺以及与警察的猫鼠游戏，都是这个系列的主题。其实早在2012年拍完《极恶非道2》的时候，北野武就透露过，不排除拍摄《极恶非道3》的可能性，而第二部故事中的太多留白似乎也为第三部埋下了伏笔。北野武就表示过：“很喜欢看到人们被我的电影震惊的样子。”据悉，第三部虽然目前最终片名未定，但故事依旧是在前两部的基础上延伸。
该片主要讲述的是1942年，江南新四军与旧、日伪进行着残酷的战斗，国民党军队环伺左右。国民党将军郝俊杰（李雪健 饰）预料到数年后国 共必有一战，便策划实施了借用一支向新四军投诚的汪伪部队，从内部一举打垮江南新四军的“金太阳计划”。 当这个设计周密、异常凶险的危机袭来的时候，新四军指挥员车道宽（胡军 饰）以超乎常人的警觉性和果敢的行动，一步步识破了敌人的阴谋，最终带领战友们杀出血路，在千钧一发之际改变了战场格局并获得了胜利。该剧剧情悬念不断，高潮戏纷至沓来。七十余个剧中角色皆有实力演员担纲出演。
