葫芦昨晚熬得晚了，比人后起床。
在渡边小五郎（东山纪之）的家中，继母·浩（野际阳子饰）去世以来，妻子·福（中越典子饰）每天都过着失意的日子。担心妻子的小五郎在同事同心・住之江彦左卫门（松尾谕）的劝说下决定整理继母的遗物。来到渡边家的是叫弥吉（伊藤健太郎）的清爽青年。在油批发商当手工费工作的同时，还负责领取人们不需要的物品，与他人交换物品的“桥梁”工作。虽然弥吉天生的脸型很广，和经师屋的凉次（松冈昌宏）和阿菊（和久井映见）也有交往，但是交换的桥梁全部都是无偿进行的。为了维系人与人之间的关系而挥洒汗水的弥吉，真是一个如画中所描绘的好人。商人苏我屋忠兵卫（近藤芳正饰）和上总屋清右惠门（西田敏行饰）接受交换工钱的邀请，但他却断然拒绝了。我答应了弥吉的将来。看望了卧病在床的母亲的弥吉，提出了想在不久的将来对母亲说祝福的话。然而，母女生活的长屋却被黑社会人士买下，被强行破坏。被卷入骚乱，妈妈也被杀了。牵着老太婆的手逃走的弥吉知道商人苏我屋忠兵卫是幕后黑手，向町奉行所提出诉讼。但是，与力的增村伦太郎（生濑胜久饰）受到来自上级的压力，无法踏出搜查的一步。怀着无法消除的怨恨的阿酱，从龙（知念侑李）和瓦屋的阵八郎（远藤宪一）那里听说了三番筋的存在。于是，弥吉决定收取物品交换的工钱，委托收集的钱来支付“工作”。接受委托，一个接一个地解决目标的工作人员们。小五郎斩断了苏我屋忠兵卫，但不知为何难以释然。这件事背后有什么内幕……。另一方面，一心想要让婆婆幸福的弥吉，在上总屋清右惠门的推荐下，决定正式进行商品交换。与老中的诹访守忠悦（林家正藏饰）也有着联系的清右惠门也成为了监护人，弥吉的生意在那一瞬间步入正轨，巨额资金涌入其中。然而，在其背后却蠢蠢欲动着惊人的阴谋……。
就在他不以为意，在荥阳和刘邦打的火热的时候，田横竟然回来了。

许氏三兄弟主演，许冠文编剧的本片，剧情简单，许冠文是娱乐周刊的社长，为了挽救将倒闭的杂志社，费尽心思发掘消息。影片中许依旧是刻薄的老板，许冠杰仍是身手不凡的醒目仔，许冠英依然傻得惹人可怜。本片始终对时代有一定的触觉，明星绯闻，美容隆胸，卡拉OK这些新兴事物为影片制造了不少乐趣。陈欣健执导手法与许氏相近，同样以演员的表演作主导，并以此为剧情的重心。影片虽然能触及社会问题，但深度不够，未能自我突破。
