本剧翻拍自汉娜·菲德尔2013年自编自导的同名影片，菲德尔出任该剧导演兼编剧。故事围绕一位高中女教师与学生发生恋情的故事展开。
永才饰演的陈金星是一个认真勤奋的书生，以干净利落的五官和刚正的品行、特有的潇洒在村内外以「冷美男」著称，他只喜欢读书和武术，所以某天被告知必须娶崔家三女儿时，感到青天霹雳。
本片无论从音乐和画面都融入大量新奥尔良元素，为影片创作音乐的兰迪·纽曼（Randy Newman)曾获奥斯卡奖，他本人就是新奥尔良人。
