本作品改编自樱桃子长青国民漫画《樱桃小丸子》，是以作者的童年1974年的童年生活为蓝本的故事。其中一事一物均充满着1970年代的怀旧气息。故事围绕着小丸子以及家人和同学之间展开，有关于亲情、友谊……或是一些生活上的小事，当中有笑有泪，令人回想起童年的稚气。其中丸尾、花轮、美环、野口等小丸子同学的形象，早已成为观众的共通话题与记忆。
