本片以林冲和宋江为两条主线，保留了《水浒传》原著中鲁智深倒拔垂杨柳、拳打镇关西、林冲风雪山神庙、一百零八好汉水泊梁山等情节，讲述了众好汉被逼上梁山起义、同意招安却失败告终的故事。
