清末年代，一群驻守山区的清兵血洗了一个藏有黄金的部族，将黄金瓜分。民国年代，当年的事已经烟消魂散，分得黄金的人或死或失散，在十里洋场的上海，还剩下五个当时把部落灭绝的清兵。姚华生和姚发兄弟凭着那些黄金大做买卖，已成了社会名流；许名扬本来是随军医生，得了黄金后大感内疚，把黄金送了去慈善机构，继续做医生行医；黎北花尽钱财后，在传教仕主理的医学院中任杂役，希望能减轻自己的罪孽；牛老八的黄金都在赌桌中散尽，以要饭为生。当年那个部族的后人--医学教授叶玉树，正在饲养巨型的变种蝙蝠，进行他的复仇大计。于是从某一天开始，当年在云南驻守过的清兵一个个离奇死亡，一时从从都说有鬼。好管闲事的考古学家白一飞、巡捕陈忠道和医科学生许如浓组成了捉鬼敢死队，他们的参与令计划出现了变化。
