该剧已获BBC America预订整季，是一部“朋克摇滚惊悚剧”，顾名思义讲的是《碟形世界》庞大设定中的“城市卫兵”那部分。聚焦一群Ankh-Morpork城邦的卫兵，有各个种族，奋力守护着这个行差踏错、摇摇欲坠的城市。
32岁职业女性岩木亚希子（绫濑遥饰）的结婚对象是上班族宫本良一（竹野内丰饰），宫本还带着一个8岁的女儿。由于岩木亚希子不习惯家务和育儿，也没有照顾小朋友的经验，在一开始闹出了许多笑话。但这对后妈和女儿的感情也在逐渐升温，三人一起组成了温馨的家庭。
故事讲述四位游客在西藏被卷入一张国宝唐卡的失窃案，与援藏公安、犯罪集团以及各路人马上展开一场事关财富、人生、爱情、信仰的追逐。虽然故事发生在西藏，但该片并不像以往的西藏题材作品一样着重表现民族文化的冲突和融合，也不会渲染高原极地的艰险和神秘，而是以喜剧片的手法，打造一个充满异域风情和文明韵味的西藏，并通过一群极具现代感的角色，给观众呈现出一个既惊险又浪漫的喜剧故事。
1945年深秋的南满某地，四连奉命护送一支地方工作队渡过塔河，前往新区建立政权。四连是一个新组建的连队，指战员全都来自于山东老区，大部分都是二十岁上下的年轻人，二十岁出头的林玉生刚刚由排长提拔为指导员。途中他们遭到了敌人的伏击，四连和工作队均损失惨重，林玉生身负重伤，工作队女队员李秋英下落不明，不久被判定为牺牲。
