在故事情节上以真实的幼儿生活为主要素材，以贴近儿童的思维方式来完成剧情创作。为了写好这部低幼动画片，创作团队进行了深入的前期调研，对选取的素材细节反复推敲。创作人员还透露，他们会试图找出自己儿时的感觉，尽力像一个孩子般感受生活，同时分享他们从孩子不同的感知观点中所学到的东西。比如在《最棒的邮票》这一集中，创作者并没有直接教给孩子什么是邮票、邮票是用来做什么的，而是让角色自己去体验，在体验中找到答案。剧中杏仁儿和小伙伴们创作的邮票充满童趣和想象力，而这种源自真实生活的自发想象力远比编剧的假想更有意义。
